A man and his garden. Mr R. B. Prebble, of 14 Cashmere View Street, Spreydon, takes a wellearned rest from the labours which yesterday won him the Christchurch Beautifying Society’s annual spring garden award for the fourth time. “I was pretty thrilled. I do not know of anyone else who has won the prize four times,” said Mr Prebble, a bachelor. Mr Prebble’s property was previously judged as Christchurch’s best view from the street in 1969, 1973, and 1976.
He said he had spent many hours and “the last two days solid” preparing his garden for this year’s competition.
The second prize was won by Mr and Mrs M. Holland, of 281 Memorial Avenue. Mrs A. K. Asher, of 29 Middlepark Road, Upper Riccarton, and Mr and Mrs J. Jeffries, of 55 Wai-iti Terrace, Fendalton, were equal third.
