Arrests after assault
A youth was assaulted, il cars damaged, and several 1 pedestrians almost run down/ in a string of incidents in-jj volving a carload of young / men between New Brighton ; and central Christchurch last |< evening. Marine Parade, New Brighton. about 5 p.m., according to the police. A scuffle broke out, and a bottle thrown at one youth glanced off his arm and smashed the windscreen of a [car. “As the offenders left the [scene they backed into another car and almost ran down some pedestrians,” a police spokesman said. The car headed into Christchurch, and a traffic officer called the police when he saw one of its occupants [allegedly trying to damage a Sparking meter near the intersection of Lichfield Street and Oxford Terrace. A young man was arrested soon after-j I wards.
