Wildlife Service
Sir, — Your corespondent, A. Haines (September 26) implied that a supposed threat of extinction of native frogs was connected with the Forest Service. I recall that in the 1950 s the ma - agement plan for Dome State Forest near Warkworth, the northern limit of Leiopelma hochstetten. included protection of the frog as a prime management objective. The two species, L. hochstetteri and L. archeyi, in the Coromandel Forest Park are also protected. L. hamiltoni on Stephens Island is not in State forest. Such comments are unjustified as is any inference that the Forest Service has no interest in wildlife protection. — Yours, etc.,
J. W. LEVY, Conservator of Forests.
