Michael Svkes. siormed back into the forefront of New Zealand boxing .when he recorded a con'vincing first-up victory at The national amateur chant-, pionships at Wellington 'yesterday. Twice a national titleholder at intermediate grade, the former Jack Hargreaves protege couldn’t have registered a stronger impression than he did yesterday in his first ring appearance after a three-i year lay-off. Pitted against the hardpunching Wellingtonian, Stu' Pauling. Sykes quickly dispelled any doubts about fitness or ability when he took Pauling out half-way through the second round.
