Air fares to U.S. increase
PA Wellington
Air fares to the United States will rise 7 per cent from Monday. The rise has been approved by the Ministry of Transport and applies on all flights leaving New Zealand by the four airlines which fly the Pacific routes — Air New Zealand, Pan American, Continental, and U.T.A. All tickets issued after September 25, and valid for travel from October 1, incur the price increases.
Tickets issued before September 25 will not be affected by the price rise. Fares on flights leaving the United States for New Zealand will not be affected yet, as the American Civil Aeronautics Board has rejected an application for fare rises from airline members of the International Air Transport Association. I.A.T.A. asked for fares on flights through United States airspace to rise between 4 per cent and 15 per cnet, and cargo rates between 7 per cent and 15 per cent. The board re-affirmed its policy of considering international fares and cargo rates only airline-by-airline and route-by-route.
