Big asparagus export
Exports of fresh New Zealand asparagus to Japan will probably exceed 5150,000 this season. The first of the season’s crop left Auckland for Japan on Wednesday, said Mr D. Turner, of Turners and Growers, Ltd, at Auckland. The Japanese market had been developed in the last three years, he said. The willingness of New
Zealand suppliers to pack asparagus to strict Japanese specifications had been important in developing the Japanese market. A Nelson grower and two Canterbury growers would begin sending asparagus to Japan in October, said the South Island representative of Turners and Growers, Mr G. Mortlock.
