TV advertisements
Sir, — The Waimairi County Council is to be commended for drawing attention to the influence of TV advertisements on young people. I wish to draw attention to an advertisement for a brand of perfume, showing a “perfect stranger giving a present of a rose to a young lady.” My six-year-old daughter asks who is correct — the policeman who gave a talk at school saying not to speak to or take anything from strangers, or the TV? Unfortunately, I think most children would take more notice of TV. Perhaps the TV channels should look a little harder at the implications of advertisements rather than just at the revenue they bring. —Yours, etc.,
P. J. LOADER. September 19, 1979.
