Vietnamese refugees
Sir, — C. M. Fogarty (August 27. 1979) insultingly suggests all New Zealanders live in a “cultural desert where our gods are rugby, racing, beer and telly.” Obviously, Mr Fogartys’ experience and knowledge of New Zealand and her people socially and economically, is very limited. Why not look to our own traditions, both English and Maori and find the wealth of culture available to all of us. We need no other. May I ask what obligation we have to these people in specific terms without the emotions. Look to New Zealand and before it is too late', close her doors. — Yours, e.tc., N. B. GRAY. Scargill. August 27, 1979.
