Oils retain interest
Interest in speculative situations, particularly oil stocks, continued on Australian markets yesterday. Santos firmed 10c to 450 c, the price of recent special local and overseas sales.
Bond Corporation rose 7c to 112 c, In answer to a stock exchange query, the big Santos shareholder said the price gains recently reflected its investment in the Cooper Basin gas producer. Bond Corp also refuted rumours that it was behind the recent
big sales of Santos shares. B.H.P. rose to 1005 c in early trading, but eased to close at 996 c. EZ Industries gained 8c to 360 c after a big profit recovery, and Utah eased 15c
to 385 c after reporting a profit downturn. Trading of Ampoi Petroleum shares continued at 100 c. CSR firmed 3c to 410 c and TNT gained 6c to 160 c. Oakbridge gained 5c to 167 c. Profits from the sale
of interests in two of its collieries resulted in a sharp profit increase. Leading miners were firm with MIM up 4c to 370 c, North BH up 6c to 205 c, and Consolidated Gold Fields up 10c to 425 c.
