Arrest sought in Australia
A warrant for the arrest of Elizabeth Anne Roberts, whom her counsel (Mr G. A. Falloon) said was at present in Australia but had no money to return to New Zealand, was issued in the Magistrate's Court yesterday. The defendant, aged 36, a dressmaker, failed to appear after earlier electing trial by jur. on 11 charges involving fraud, false pretence, and theft, allegediv amounting to $750.07. Depositions of five prosecution witnesses, including a woman from Wellington, were to have been heard yesterday bv Messrs M. B. Hayes and R. J. M. Millar, J slices of the Peace. Mr Falloon said the defendant was not present and he could only advise the Court that she had telephoned her solicitors from Australia. She told them she did not anticipate being back for yesterday’s hearing. but indicated that she would be returning in the future. ‘‘The problem is that she got over there and has no money to get back,” said Mr Falloon. He said he had been instructed to seek an adjourn-
