Fines after brawl at Dunedin tavern
< PA Dunedin i Seven young men appear- ' ing before Mr G. J. Seeman, , S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court at Dunedin yesterday i pleaded guilty ’to charges arising from a disturbance • at the Downtown Tavern on Friday evening. The men, all aged between 19 and 25, pleaded guilty to charges including assault, resisting the police, behaving in a disorderly manner, fighting in a public place, and obstructing the footpath. One man, Raymond John Saxon, aged 20. a labourer, pleaded guilty to charges of assault and resisting a constable in the execution of his duty. He was convicted on both charges and remanded to next month for sentence. Bail of $5OO was granted. The other six men were convicted and fines imposed ranging from $25 to $125. Several others arrested after the incident pleaded not guiltv to similar charges. Thev were remanded on bail for hearings ,n October.
