Maoris to visit China
PA Wellington About 25 leading Maori cultural performers will go to China on December 2 at the invitation of the Chinese Government. The Minister of Maori Affairs (Mr Couch) said yesterday that he had authorised the spending of Maori funds on the tour, which would be paid for jointly by the Maori Trustee (Mr I. Puketapu) and the Ministry ’ of Foreign Affairs. While in China, the group will be guests of the Chinese Government. “This will be a completely cultural mission,” Mr Couch said. The president of the Maori and South Pacific Arts Council, Archdeacon Kingi Ihaka, has been asked to nominate performers.
