Job scheme not new to Chch

Job advertising on noticeboards in Labour Department district offices, which the Minister of Labour (Mr Bolger) said would be introduced in the next few weeks, has been used in the Christchurch office since late last year. The department's district superintendent (Mr W. T. Holland) said that the method used in the youth section office had been a pilot scheme. It had been so successful that it was decided to try it in the adult employment section. This too had proved successful. Mr Holland said that if a job-seeker found a vacancy that suited him or her from the noticeboard it would save the trouble

of having to wait for an interview with an employment officer. The jobseeker was still advised to fill in a form and register as unemployed. The special youth employment office in Ibis House, Christchurch, has had noticeboards prominently displayed, and has included daily clippings of vacancies advertised in newspapers. Noticeboards have also been used in the main employment office of the Labour Department in Christchurch for the last two months. He urged employers to co-operate in the scheme by submitting vacancies to the department.
