Session to end November 9?
PA Wellington Paliament’s present session is expected rto end on November 9, or, November 15 at the latest. The Leader of the House (Mr Thomson) told Parliament this when he moved that Government business take precedence on V’ednesdays from now until the end of the session. This means that members will not be able to debate private notices of motion, normally (taken on Wednesdays. The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association will
hold its annual conference in Wellington in November and the Government wants to wind up the session before then. The Leader of the Opposition (Mr Rowling) said there was nothing to stop Parliament having a recess for the conference. He said Labour members would vote against the motion to take precedence for Government business on Wednesdays as an expression of their general dissatisfaction with the way Parliament’s business was being conducted.
