Boys’ High reached the final with a win over Wellington College, 5-4, on penalties.

Badminton The unseeded Treena Carlyon, Waikato, created an early sensation in the national under 14 and under 16 badminton championships, in Nelson when she beat the girls’ under 16 top seed, Sharon Wilson, Canterbury. Miss Carlyon’s glory was shortlived however, as she lost soon after to Colleen Hellyer, of Counties, who will play Kim Stanford-Davis, of Counties, in one semi-final, while the second seed, Terry Richards, of Counties. will play Haywood, of Oroua, in the other. Basketball Kings High School, Dimedin, was this year’s winner in the open grade secondary schools’ basketball championships, which ended in Dunedin yesterday. Kings beat Otago Boys’ High School, 92-58. In the under 16 final Mairehau A beat Otago Boys’ High School 38-34. Rugby league Auckland clinched the national schoolboys’ rugby league tournament at Strand Park, Hutt Valley, yesterday when it beat one of its main challengers, Canterbury, 11-9.
