Cuts forced on ‘Radio with Pictures’

Cuts in television spending in New Zealand have effected SPTV’s late-night rock show, “Radio With Pictures.” As a result of reduced spending by the two television channels, SPTV has cut back on the number of New Zealand groups seen on the rock show by between one-quarter and a half, according to sources in Wellington.

“Radio With Pictures” used TV2’s Shortland Street studios in Auckland f jr recording local groups whenever the studio wasn’t being used for other filming work. But now that there is a strict ban on week-end work in the studios so that a schedule that was once spread out over seven days now has to be squeezed into fi,ve, the

spare time has all but disappeared. The closing of the SPTV Hamilton studio, which has meant that programmes filmed there Lave had to be transferred to Auckland, has further clogged the Shortland Street studins. The result, for rock fans, will be an increasing number of overseas clips cf rock groups performing the more commercial sounds that are already met in ‘‘Good Time Sounds” and TVl’s "Ready to Roll,” as well as in "Radio With Pictures.” ,
