Coast bombed by Israel
NZPA-Reuter Beirut Israeli planes and artillery bombarded southern Lebanon yesterday and about 50 Israeli troops moved into the outskirts of a village under United Nations . control, the official Lebanese media have reported. Beirut Radio said the planes had attacked a coastal area at Ras El-Ain, a few kilometres south of the port city of Tyre. The radio gave no details, but hospital sources told a Reuter correspondent in the south that at least five people had been wounded. The official news agency said that a few hours earlier an Israeli mechanised force had set up a strongpoint on the outskirts of Shabaa, a small farming community in south-east Lebanon 2km from the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. The agency said the Israelis withdrew after being confronted by soldiers serving with the United Nations peace-keeping force. The village lies near the eastern limit of a sector patrolled by a Norwegian United Nations battalion.
