No workers’ train?

Greymouth reporter The Railways Department proposes to cancel the 5.15 p.m. workers’ train from Greymouth to Dunollie from September 17 because of poor patronage. The train has carried an average of only one or two passengers a night. The president of the Greymouth branch of the Locomotive Engineers’ Association (Mr F. A. A. Lucas) and the secretary of the Grey mouth branch of the

National Union of Railwaymen (Mr T. J. Isherwood) said that the public of Runanga and Dunollie must either prpve to the General Manager of Railways (Mr T. M. Hayward) that the service was warranted, or lose it.

“For some time the service has been run for only one or two passengers and rarely has the number reached double . figures,” they said. “On occasions, especially Fridays, no passengers have used the service.”
