Auxiliary Bishop of Welling- > ton (the Most Rev. O. N. Snedden) signed the agree- : ments that bring St Ber- ‘ nard’s School, Brooklyn, and Cardinal McKeefry Marist ’ Brothers School. Wellington Education Board : at a ceremony in Thomdon, The move means the ' schools will have the financial . backing of the State, but will i still retain their “special character.” It is the first step in an ’ integration process that i should bring all 250 primary and 62 secondary Roman Catholic schools into the i State system within a few : years. 1 At the ceremony. Bishop Snedden said he hoped -integration would remove financial uncertainties and safe- ' guard the position of teachers in Roman Catholic schools.
“But the Christian heritage of our faith must be pre. served and passed on to future generations,” he said,
A separate integration agreement will be drawn up and signed for each school.
