Fire kills man
PA Auckland One man is dead and four persons are in hospital after a fire tragedy in an Auckland rest home last evening. Firemen took nearly 3f minutes to control the fin which spread from the 66 year-oid victim’s bedroonr through part of the upstairs hallway, and sent smoke billowing through the rest of the top floor. The four elderly people were admitted to Greenlane Hospital suffering from smoke inhalation. ' The fire broke out about 8.45 pan. at the Elmstone Rest Home in Remuera; 12
of the 30 residents were upstairs at the time. Firemen were helped by some of the more able re" idents to carry five very elderly people in the top torey down the stairs to afety.
