Good Lord wins again
Special correspondent Auckland Good Lord continued his comeback in the United States by winning a ninefurlong event at Del Mar last Saturday in time that was only a fraction of a second outside the track record. Over-keen for the pace previously, Good Lord sprinted at the right end of his race this time, running on evidently in much the way he did for such fine staying form in New Zealand and Australia. The winning stake for this latest event on Good Lord’s programme was $42,000, bringing his earnings in the United States to around $lOO,OOO. More will very likely follow, because his vetem trainer, Charles Whittingham, has told the owner, Mr Michael Hines, that he believes the horse is only now becoming acclimatised. Now eight years old by New Zealand time, Good Lord finished his racing in the Southern Hemisphere with a Sydney Cup win under 60kg. He included two Wellington Cups in his other wins and all told gathered 18 first placings in Australia and New Zealand and $270,355 in stakes.
