Racing and trotting Kahawai likely winner of first leg today

Special correspondent Auckland I’he 25kg penalty he received for winning at Ellerslie last Saturday should not keep Kahawai from another good showing in the City of Tauranga Handicap at the Bay of Plenty Racing Club’s meeting today.

Kauere Lad goes best when the ground is heavy and if there is further rain his chance will be the brighter. Already a help to Kauere Lad is the field] being smaller than usual: hei is a slow starter and will probably give most of his opponents a start into the last 800 m.

Hoochy Couchy Henry and Beau Henri have ability on very soft footing and recent form that means they have to be considered. Cornelius is now nine years old but he! was not asked for much last I season, he might vet be cap- ; able of a good race or two. The scratching of Golden: Key and Anderil has made the ma' sprint, the Fes-i rival Handicap, very open.] Even Dollars and Question Me should go well. Royal Petite came up with good form early last season. She could be worth attention even though this will be her first race after a fair layoff. Lucanus. in the Steeplechase, looks the best way to start an attempt on the T.A.B. treble.
