More than one million workers, about one-third of the population of Israel have staged a twd-hour strike to protest against rising prices. The Histadrut trades union federation said 90 per cent of the country’s work force answered its strike call. The federation called the strike after announcement of price rises of up to 50 per cent on a number of basic food items, owing to reductions in Government subsidies. — Tel Aviv.
