Accidental stabbing
NZPA Sydney A Victorian Olympic fencer, Greg Benko, was discharged from hospital yesterday after being accidentally stabbed in the throat at the Australian amateur championships. A foil snapped; slipped under Benko’s protective gear and penetrated his throat during the foils finals at North Sydney on Monday evening. Benko was discharged from the Royal North Shore Hospital after exhaustive tests but has withdrawn from the rest of the championships.
