Robbery charges
PA Nelson Two young men appeared in the Magistrate’s Court at Nelson yesterday charged with armed robbery at the Thorpe Post Office on Tuesday. One of those charged was 16 and appeared before Messrs K. R. Arres and J. H. Cotterell, JPs, in the Childrens and Young Persons Court. David John Atkins, unemployed labourer, 21, was charged that while armed with an offensive weapon, a shotgun, he, with the 16-year-old, robbed Patricia Johnston of $565 on Tuesday] at Thorpe, near Nelson. The 16-year-old was charged with being armed with a .303 rifle during the robbery. Both were remanded in custody until tomorrow. No pleas were taken and bail was refused.
The 16-year-old youth will also be charged with robbery last Friday of the Blenheim Christian Book-room, the Blenheim C. 1.8. said
yesterday. About $2OO was taken by the intruder who was reported to be in possession of a pair of scissors
