Regional agricultural training officer, Mr R. W. Greenhough, advises of a number of events which will be of interest to West Coast farmer readers. There will be a marketing seminar, also of interest to towns people, at the Regent Theatre in Greymouth next Friday running from 1.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m., followed by dinner at the Kings Motor Inn and a panel discussion in the evening. Dairy, Meat and Wool Boards, Forest Service and Deer Farmers’ Association speakers will be discussing the problems and future of the marketing of New Zealand produce. A brief outline of agriculture and the New Zealand economy will be followed by trends and problems of relevance to West Coast farmers. An afternoon on wool handling and shed preparation of the clip for maximum profit is scheduled to

be held at Bald Hill beginning at 1.30 p.m. next Thursday. There will also be courses on welding at Arthur’s Transport at Harihari on July 31, John Ritchie’s farm at Kowhitirangi on August 1, the dairy factory at Karamea on August 2, and Joe Syron’s shed, Westport, on August 3. The Harihari course starts at 10 a.m. but the others will begin at 9 a.m. A one-day course on farm building will be held in the Regent Theatre in Greymouth beginning at 10 a.m. on August 15. It will be pf value to farmers adding to existing buildings or putting up new ones. Chain saws will be the subject of another event at Mr Joe Rothery’s property at Rotomanu starting at 12.30 p.m. on August 7. Safety, legal aspects, chain saw maintenance and timber felling will be discussed.
