Talks by drivers
Drivers in Canterbury and Westland will decide early next week what action they will take to overcome the impasse in their award negotiations. The latest proposals by the employers for a 9.5 per cent wage increase will probably be put to the drivers next week, after a meeting of the union’s executive. It is expected that
the drivers will reject the proposal. The secretary of the Canterbury-Westland Drivers’ Union (Mr P. R. Liggett) said last evening that no action was planned yet, but the drivers would decide next week what action they thought appropriate. Wellington drivers held a one-day strike yesterday in protest against the awardnegotiation impasse.
