$18,000 for Jersey cow
The New Zealand Jersey Cattle Breeders’ Association says that practically every all-breeds price record was broken at the dispersal of the Fairway Jersey stud of Waikato breeder. Mr R. McHardie. The seven-year-oid cow, Fairways Follys Rosette VHC in the accompanying photograph, sold for the Australasian record price
of $lB,OOO to Mr R. W. Shuker, of Waiuku. The same breeder also paid $lO,OOO for the 12-year-old triple Waikato champion, Fairways Follys Rosetta Excellent. Messrs A. W. Revell and Sons (Hawera) also paid a new record price of $14,500 for the yearling bull, Fairway Noble Grandee, while Maysmead Jerseys Ltd, .of Te Aroha,
created another record of §B2OO for the in-calf heifer, Fairway Blonde Candy. A large bench of buyers from all parts of the country, together with a large contingent from Australia, paid an Australasian record average of $3549 for 90 head grossing $319,450. Thirty-six cows averaged $4518, 33 in-calf heifers $3039, and 18 yearling bulls $2300.
