Six weeks wait after surgery
An Ohai youth will not know for another six weeks whether surgery to sew back a severed thumb has been successful. James Sydney Molloy, aged 17, lost a thumb in an accident with a compressedair machine at the Linton State mine on Wednesday and was sent to the Burwoe' Hospital fc mi.rocurgery. His thumb was packed in ice from a hotel freezer. Some concern has been expressed that the success of the surgery will be affected by the fact that the thumb was frozen. A spokesman for the Burwood Hospital said that severed limbs should be chilled in a mixture of ice and water, and not completely frozen.
