N .P. A. - Tasman settle new price

PA Auckland The Newspaper Publishers’ Association, in negotiations with Tasman Pulp and Paper Co, Ltd, has agreed to further voluntary' price rises for newsprint up to July, 1980, the managing director of Wilson and Horton, Ltd.

(Mr H. M. Horton) said at the annual meeting.

The more flexible exchange rate system, announced in the Budget, together with the value-added export incentives, would be most encouraging for new and existing pulp and paper enterprises in this country, and this should reduce the need for the constant rises in the price of newsprint sold locally, he said. “New Zealand is blessed with an abundance of three of the vital factors for making newsprint — wood, and energy, in the form of surplus electricity.

“With the country in search of new industries, it is to be hoped that attention will be given to further investment in newsprint manufacture,” Mr Horton said.
