Effects of report feared

If the Johnson Report .on health and social education is implemented in schools it will turn children into “uncontrollable little tyrants,” according to the chairman of the Integrity Centre in Christchurch (Mr N. M. Rush). Mr Rush said in a statement that the motive of the Johnson Report was to remove traditional moral standards. He suggested that the Director-General of Education (Mr W. L. Renwick) and some other unnamed officials in' the Education Department should be dismissed. Government policies catered for expanding alcohol consumption and encouraged the breakdown of marriage. “For years we have seen the subtle inclusion into the curriculum of all kinds of liberal studies: little red school books and the like teaching children disrespect for authority and encouraging them to ‘do their own thing’,” said Mr Rush. “All this simply denies young people a stable start to life and creates frustrations and resentments that are graphically depicted in statistics of vandalism, burglary, crime, violence, and almost impossible classroom conditions,” he said.
