Censure move fails
The reduction of a jail sentence on an Israeli officer who murdered four Arab prisoners of war raised a storm in Parliament after disclosure that the officer was friendly with the daughter of a high-ranking officer who appealed on his behalf. But the Knesset (Parliament) voted 54-4 against a motion of no-confidence against the Government for failing to censure the Israeli Chief bf Staff (Lieutenant-General Rafael Eitan). General Eitan cut six years off the eight-year term imposed on the officer for killing four prisoners of war during Israel’s incursion on Lebanon last year. — Jerusalem.
