Big Mike has appealing form in first leg

Special Correspondent Auckland A Bay of Plenty galloper, Big Mike, from Te Puke, should win the President’s Handicap, the first leg of the T.A.B. double at Tauranga today. Big Mike has collected two seconds and a fourth from his last four starts. In the other race he finished only 11th but the luck of the running was against him. Last time out, at Te Rapa on July 4, Big Mike was worn down by Hoochy Couchy Henry after being left in front a shade early in the run home. Arclestar and Alcerino should provide Big Mike with most opposition. Arclestar has not raced beyond 1600 m. over which distance she is a last-start winner at Te Teko on June 30. She has 500 m further to go this time but should not be found wanting. Alcerino faded disappointingly behind Hoochy touchy Henry at Te Rapa. Probably the very heavy around was against him. In nis previous start, on good winter footing at Tauranga. he came second. Elmar looks a sound bet in the second leg, the Domain Handicap. Elmar has not raced since rhe won at Hawera on June 20 but she is a light type of filly which probably will

always do best when her racing is spaced. The stablemates, Stylish , Officer and Blue Shifnal, i merit attention. Stylish f Officer is racing well and . Blue Shifnal is improving. Valour and Pacific Belle [ should also be considered, i Valour looked smart last winter and spring. He has I had one race in the fresh i campaign.
