Dinner
A PETIT
All the world loves a steak, and one of the best places to go is The Coachman Steak House, which specialises in steaks. Naturally there is a good variety: Hawaiian Ham, Export Ribeye, Peppered Porterhouse, Garlic Sirloin, T-bone, Giant T-bone, and Fillet. They take great care to cook your steak exactly the way you want it. The Coachman is the ideal place when you are in a hurry, yet want more than take-aways" or the traditional grill. You sit down in superior surroundings, order your steak, and help yourself to a side salad of your choice: potato salad, macaroni and ham, several green salads, beetroot, corn and peas, cheese, and a choice of dressings all for 80c per plate if had with the main course. There is no need to book: even when The Coachman is busy, you seldom have long to wait.
The steaks—cooked on the grill in full view —are served literally sizzling hot on special stain-
less-steel plates set in a wood surround. Prices range from $2.95 to $4.90. Instead of steak you can order lamb or pork chops, which are served in the same way, sizzling on the plate, with a baked potato in tinfoil on the.side.
For dessert you choose from deep baked apple pie, hot fudge sundae, boysenberry parfait, or pancakes with either maple syrup or lemon •juice. T
A choice of fruit juices, soft drinks, tea, or coffee completes the meal. We had the fillet steak, and pork chops served with apple sauce, followed by a pancake and coffee, and enjoyed it thoroughly. The bill of fare came to $lO.BO.
This is an informal, unpretentious restaurant which sets high standards within its limitations —standards which have been very consistent over the years.
The Coachman is open for dinner every evening from 5 — until 9 on the first three days of the week, and until midnight the rest of the week. It is open for luncheon Monday to Friday from noon to 2 p.m., serving a nice smorgasbord at $2.50, or a superior steak sandwich at 82.30.
