Zimbabwe plea
NZPA-Reuter
Washington
The Prime Minister of Zimbabwe Rhodesia (Bishop Abel Muzorewa) will today appeal to the American Secretary of State (Mr Cyrus Vance) and Congress for trade and diplomatic links between the United States and his southern African country. Arriving on his first overseas trip since taking office, Bishop Muzorewa said he was bringing a “bombshell of truth” to all Americans who would listen, and he hoped they would respond.
His statement was more optimistic than his remarks on leaving Salisbury, where he declared “only a sick person or people” would want to maintain economic sanctions against the breakaway British colony Bishop Muzorewa will see the Secretary of State, talk with members of Congress, meet editors of the “Washington Post” newspaper, and appear on a television news programme during his stay.
