Totara Park shapes well for Trentham
Special correspondent, Palmerston North. Totara Park looked in fine fettle when he worked over 1600 metres at Awapuni yesterday. He has obviously thrived since winning the Hastings Steeples and he v ”1 be an interesting fresh runner for the Riddiford Steeplechase at Trentham next Saturday. King Carl was another third day runner to impress. Totara Park ran 1600 metres on the inside trial and was timed for the last 1200 in Imin 20s, the final 600 in 395. Surrey Park and Able
Note took lmin 7.6 s for 1000 metres, the last 600 in 38.6. Able Note may race either at Levin or the Manawatu Hunt meeting then, perhaps, attempt the Winter Cup at Riccarton next month. Priorsford and Gold Leaf, two Levin candidates from Margaret Bull’s stable, ran home. 800 in 52, the last 600 in 39 and Kula Gulf covered 800 in 57, the last 600 in 41. Gay Rally worked well to run 800 in 51.5. On the plough Silver Atel took 55s for 800 -metres, the last 600 in 40.4 s The Rotorua visitor will resume racing at Trentham next Saturday. Precious Son was given a
light task over a couple of easy rounds on the plough. He will attempt to win his fourth race on end at Trentham today. Precious Son will be ridden by Garry Jago, who is apprenticed to Jock Harris. Jago can claim the full four and a half kilogram allowance so Precious Son will end up with only 55.55.
Guess Who was given a light task as was his stablemate Glandovey. Guess Who: has his next start in the Manawatu Hunt Cup before the Grand National at Riccarton but Glandovey will contest the Riddiford Steeples at Trentham on Saturday.
