Firearms control
Sir, — The recent senseless slaying of a young Auckland nightclub hostess, has brought about police reaction that there be more stringent control of firearms. In this country we already have too much Government control, but this is one area where tighter regulations would be in order. May I suggest that all firearms, including shotguns, be kept with the various police stations around the country. If owners required their firearms, they would have to present themselves at the police station, state the reasons for taking the firearms out and then return them when finished. This would inconvenience 99 per cent of all firearm owners, including myself, but it just might save a life. Nobody wants a situation in this country, as in America, where it is so easy for someone to run amuck with a firearm. —■ Yours, etc.. MALCOLM ROBINSON. July 8, 1979.
