‘Vibration’ diverts Boeing
PA Hamilton A “minor vibration” in an engine forced a fully-loaded Boeing 737 to divert from Hamilton to Auckland on Sunday afternoon. The plane which was carrying 112 rugby followers, was en route from Wellington to Hamilton, having started the flight in Christchurch after the first test on Saturday. The passengers returned to Hamilton by bus. An Air New Zealand spokesman said yesterday that it was normal practice to take aircraft to Auckland or Christchurch, where there were facilities for repairs. Engineers discovered the vibration was caused by a “minor” fault, which was corrected at Mangere, and the plane left again at t 5 p.m. on Sunday. v
