United trio in N.Z. soccer team
PA Wellington The national soccer team coach, John Adshead, has named a predictable squad . for a two-match tour to i New Caledonia from July 23 to 27. i Mr Adshead has stuck by those players who in the last month have achieved winning results against Fiji (twice) and Australia. The experienced Trans Tours United trio of Bobby Almond, Johan Werweij and ' Steve Sumner — selected but unavailable for the Fiji tour because of a Chatham Cup commitment — are , back in the squad. Clearly their skills will be needed against New Caledonia. Their replacements on the Fiji trip — John Leijh, Chris Turner and Alex Metzger — have been omitted. The New Zealand team will definitely play one match against New Caledonia though the second match may be against a provincial side. The team is: Sandy Davie, Tony Sibley, Brian Turner, Keith Nelson (Mount Wellington), Richard Wilson (Newmans Nelson), Dave Bright (Manurewa). Sam Malcomson Alf Stamp (Eastern Suburbs), Adrian Elrick, Duncan Cole, Duncan Ormond (Hanimex United), Bobby Almond, Steve Sumner, Johan Verweij (Trans Tours United), Shane Rufer (Stop Out). The team will be managed by Mr Don McDonald (Wel« lington) and Mr Arthur Eagen (Auckland) will be the assistant manager.
