Cliff Leney in doubt
Cliff Leney, who has scored 50 points in just four appearances for the Canterbury rugby league team this season, might not play again for the province or his club, Linwood, this year. The Canterbury coach, Mr Trevor Bisman, said yesterday that a final specialist’s report was still to be received concerning Leney’s shoulder injury, but there was a distinct prospect that surgery would be heeded to insert a pin. A serious wrist injury prevented Leney from making his first-class debut in 1977 and he did not waste his opportunity when recalled this winter. He began with seven goals against Wellington and his 50 points result from two i tries and 22 goals.
