Rising Damp a certain runner

Rising Damp, the flat galloper which has attracted much attention in the area in the last week, is a certain runner in the Members Handicap, second leg of the double at Trentham tomorrow.
And though he has 59 kg his connections will not be claiming any allowance. Rising Damp will be ridden by Bob Vance, the country’s top horseman and successful 102 times so far this season. Vance was on Rising Damp when he easily won the Simmons Handicap at Wanganui last Tuesday, but on Saturday the mount went to Tony Williams with Vance committed to rides at Avondale. Rising Damp was at Trentham yesterday morning and he did easy work around th» centre of the oval. His Part owner and trainer, Let Wickham, is pleased with his condition. Crest Star will be ridden by Tony Williams in th« Members Handicap and the four-year-old worked well enough around the outsidt of the course proper yester. day.
He ran 1200 m, the last 800 m in 56.2 s the 600 m in 40s.
Trained by the Tuckers al Takanini, Crest Star gained recognition with his win over Uncle Remus in the Great Northern Guineas last season. He has taken a little time to find his best this time back, but he looks well now. He did not get a run in the Whyte Handicap last week and he is to stay in the area for a short time after Trentham. He has, as one of his objectives, the Levin Winter Cup tomorrow week.
The South Island gelding Master Lea worked well. A bold third in the Whyte Handicap he showed that he would not be without a chance in the Parliamentarj when he galloped on the outside of the course proper. He was not after time foi the first part of the gallop but he speeded up over th( final stages. The 800 m took 57s but the 600 m 41.45.
Casino, so impressive when winning on the courss last May, ran 800 m in the trial in 565, the last 600 m in 41,55. Casino’s form ha! been consistent since hii win and he would not bi without a chance in the Pe tone Handicap. His rider will be Greg Childs. Amigacho, a two-year-old Adips II colt which is to run in the Juvenile Handicap worked down the chute oi the course proper. Hi sprinted 600 m, a distance that can not be timed, an< looked to be doing his work well enough. Warwick Rob inson will ride him and stablemate, True to Order. Luck Roona, which hae the misfortune to keep meet, ing top horses — he struck Pastrol on Saturday — wit run in the Members Handt cap. He has 59.5 kg but will not claim an allowance. Seima came to the end ol 800 m in 56.85, the last 600 n in 44.25. The stablemates, Nivel Pride and Dew Drop, com pleted an easy 800 m in 59t the last 600 m in 45.55, wit| Nivek Pride clear at the fin ish.
Poise, the Trentham maji which missed racing on Sat urday, will run tomorrow She worked in the darl yesterday and has recoverei from the injury. Peter Harrii will ride her.
