Indonesian fuel in N.Z.
NZPA Jakarta Shipments of condensate to Nev/ Zealand from the Indonesian liquefied naturalgas field of Arun have been processed during the last six months at the Marsden Point oil refinery. Usually reliable commercial sources in Jakarta said that condensate valued at $16.5 million had been shipped from Indonesia since last November. The purchases had been made by Mobil Oil and the last shipment had been in May. The availability of this product for Marsden Point had diversified the sources of New Zealand oil imports because previously only crude oil with an unacceptably high wax content had been available from Indonesia, In 1973, when the O.P.E.C. cartel of oil-producing nations first dramatically increased oil prices, the then New Zealand Prime Minister, Mr Kirk, sought to make a barter arrangement with Indonesia, offering New Zealand primary products in return for oil. But the proposal found-
ered on oil-company advice that Indonesian crude was i unacceptable for refining at * Marsden Point. i
Canterbury farmers have complained about the quality of a recent shipment of diesel oil from Indonesia.
