Make feathers, beads
To make an Indian head-dress:— 1. Cut a strip of light cardboard about scm wide and long enough to fit your head with about 10cm left over to allow
for stapling. 2. With wax crayons, and using bright colours, make an Indian design around the band. 3. Join the two ends of the band to fit your head,
using sticky tape or a stapler. 4. Cut out some feather shapes about 23cm long. Cut slits along each side of the feathers, and draw feathery lines from each cut. Staple or tape the feathers in place. You can have two on one side, one in the middle, or feathers all round, as you wish. Indians wear lots of strings of beacs, and you can make them with macaroni. You need the short hollow kind. 1. Put some water in several plastic containers and add different vegetable colourings to each. 2. Put some macaroni in
each container, and remove it as soon as the colour takes. Do not leave the macaroni too long because it will go soft and sticky. 3. Spread the coloured macaroni on newspaper to dry. 4. Thread a needle with strong thread and make a large knot at one end to hold the beads. Arrange the colours in a pattern you like and then begin to thread your beads until the necklace is the length you want. Tie the two ends firmly. Make several necklaces to wear with your feather head-dress.
