Seminar for midwives
Midwives will hear about the latest trends in the practice of their profession at a seminar in Christchurch on July 13 and 14, when the theme will be “The child before and around birth.” Speakers on the theme will include specialist members of the medical profession and panellists from community groups which promote the welfare o' young children.
It will be the first time l h e Canterbury-West Coast branch of the midwives and obstetric, nurses’ special interest section of the Nurses’ Association has held a national
confernece in the South Island, and it is expected that about 100 participants from all parts of New Zealand will attend. They will include registered genera] nurses and physiotherapists as well as midwives. The chairman of the eganising committee (Mrs Margaret McGowan) said that this year’s seminar had two particularly important aspects. One was that midwifery education would be moved next year out of hospitals to the Christchurch Technical Institute; the other was that 1979 was the International Year of the Child.
