Changes in Dow Jones

NZPA New York Dow Jones and Company, Inc., .said it will change the make-up of the companies in its Dow Jones industrial average, effective from Friday. Dow Jones said International Business Machines Corp, and Merck and Company will be included in the average and Chrysler Corp, and Esmark, Incorporated, will be deleted — to make room for the new additions. The company also said a new share of Du Pont Company will be substituted for the Du Pont stock already included in the average, as a result of Du Pont’s threefor one stock split. Dow Jones said the change in the make-up is its first major revision of the industrials in 20 years. The company said the change will help reflect the importance of technology and pharmaceuticals in the nation’s economy and in the stock market. The Dow Jones industrial average consists of 30 stocks.
