Viswanath hits century
NZPA London., G'.tndappa Viswanath, on his third tour of England in eight years, finally reached his first century at Lord’s as the Indian cricketers took apart M.C.C.’s exnerimental attack on the opening dav of their three day match. The Essex fast bowler, John Lever, who has been the scourage of batsmen in the English county chamnionship this season, had a disappointing day. His 24 overs cost 86 runs and at the close of play the tourists had amassed 305 for three. Viswanath, a pillar of Indian batting for a decade, played through four hours for an unbeaten 105 after being given a “life" at 20. Graham Gooch nut down a catch at leg sl’p off the bowling of his English test colleague, John Emburey.
