Canada to get Corriedales
PA Auckland Canadian farmers plan to fly a plane-load of New Zealand Corriedale sheep to Saskatchewan. The farmers are interested in this breed because of the hardy qualities and high meat yield, according to a Saskatchewan Agricultural Department marketing co-ordinator (Mr A. Knudsen). The Saskatchewan, Government is organising the venture and Mr Knudsen has been in New -Zealand inspecting flocks. Final negotiations have not been completed, but a “stretched” DCB loaded with 650 to 750 sheep will be flown out later this year. Saskatchewan farmers normally bred Rambouillet sheep, a hardy breed, but with a lower meat yield than the Corriedale, Mr Knudsen said.
