Call to delay refuse plans
A halt has been urged on all town planning action on the proposed refuse-transfer station at Styx Mill Road. The National Party’s Papanui electorate executive decided at an emergency meeting yesterday to ask the Waimairi County Council to decline any application to designate the site for the station and to stay proceedings until - after the. localbody elections next year. This would make the matter an election issue. It also asked the council in a special resolution not to ‘‘deliberately deprive” residents of any right of appeal. A Waimairi town-planning spokesman said that the council had no power to decline the ' application. It could only make a recommendation to the controlling authority, the Metropolitan
