Gas-taxi subsidy
Christchurch taxi owners will be encouraged to convert their cars to run on compressed natural gas, as a result of the Budget. They will now be allowed a 25 per cent subsidy on the capital cost of conversion and the remaining cost will be able to be written off for tax purposes. “This is certainly encouraging, especially if compressed natural gas can be made more readily available in the South Island,” said the chairman of the Canterbury branch of the Taxi Proprietors’ Federation (Mr G. T. Mather) last evening.
