H.A.R.T. campaign
PA Wellington The Halt All Racist Tours movement has begun a campaign against South African and Rhodesian attendance at a conference of service clubs in Christchurch in September. H.A.R.T. has written to the secretary of Round Table in New Zealand about invitations to South Africa and Rhodesia for the World Council of Young Men’s Service Clubs conference.
If either attended the conference, “they will face strong opposition throughout the conference and their visit to New Zealand.” said H.A.R.T.’s Canterbury-West-land area officer, Ms Pauline McKay.
She said that in South' Africa “some service clubs allowed a few wealthy blacks to belong to their clubs. However, this did nothing to break down the fundamental structures of! the apartheid system.”
